ASPHO Members:
We need your help today to encourage the
House of Representatives to fund the Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment
Program. This program was created in 2010 but has yet to be funded by
Congress.
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) is asking
other members of the House to sign his letter to Congressional appropriators
urging them to provide funding for this program. The letter requests an
initial investment of $5 million to start the program.
You can help by urging your own member of
House of Representatives to sign Rep. McDermott's letter. Your representative
needs to sign on by
Tuesday, April 16.
Call your U.S. representative as soon as possible
and tell them to:
"Support funding for the Pediatric
Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program by signing on to Rep. McDermott's letter
requesting $5 million in funding."
Talking points:
- I am a pediatric
subspecialist from your district and I see first-hand how shortages of
subspecialty providers impact children.
- There are serious shortages of
pediatric subspecialists and child mental health care providers across
the country.
- These shortages result in
children with serious medical conditions needing to wait unacceptably
long for appointments, having to travel great distances to find a
provider, or simply going without the care they need.
- The Pediatric Subspecialty Loan
Repayment program will help improve the access of children to needed
subspecialists.
- This program would provide up
to $35,000 per year in loan repayment for pediatric subspecialists who
work in underserved areas.
